More than 500 Michiganders attended the 2017 International Builders Show (IBS) in Orlando January 10-12. DTE Energy and Huber Engineered Woods, along with the HBA of Michigan’s Remodelers and Associates Council sponsored a fun Michigan reception at the IBS House Party. And despite some traffic challenges around the convention center, attendees got some great weather, great education, great exhibits, great networking and heard from inspiring speakers such as Peyton Manning.
Michigan’s own Ann Garvey (HBA of Greater Lansing) Chaired the NAHB Convention Committee that planned this year’s show. Great job Ann! She follows a long line of past Michigan chairs of this event, including Karl Schelling (HBA of Jackson) and Lynne Pratt (HBA of SE Michigan) among others.
Speaking of Michigan leadership at the national level, we have a long list of dedicated members and staff who have spent numerous hours (and years) helping our national association. Whether it has been leadership demonstrated from the likes of past NAHB Chairman Bob Jones (HBA of SE Michigan) or leadership on codes from staff members like Lee Schwartz, Michigan puts its blood, sweat and tears into the work of our national association.
Karen Schroeder (HBA of Greater Lansing) was named NAHB Industry Advisory Board Member of the Year for her work with the Michigan State University Construction Management School. Karen was also recognized for her work on the 55+ Housing Industry Council Board of Trustees and is a member of the Professional Women in Building Council Board of Trustees.
Don Pratt (HBA of SE Michigan) was awarded the Leadership in Construction Safety Award during the 11th annual NAHB/Builders Mutual Safety Awards for Excellence (SAFE) reception held in Orlando. NAHB has presented this award to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding vision, leadership, and commitment towards improving construction safety in the home building industry.
Mike Tribble (HBA of Saginaw) was inducted into the NAHB Society of Honored Associates. Mike, a CPA from Yeo and Yeo, has also served on NAHB’s Audit Committee (as well as chair) for several years.
Carole Jones (HBA of SE Michigan) serves on the NAHB Budget and Finance Committee and is a member of the Professional Women in Building Council Board of Trustees. Carol is a past chair of both the national and her local PWB Chapter. She has been a longtime moving force in the creation and growth of PWB chapters around the country. Her local PWB was the recipient of a Community Outreach award at IBS and Carole accepted that recognition (and scholarship donation) on their behalf.
Jeff Grantham (HBA of Northern Michigan) was recognized for his past service as Vice Chair of the NAHB Remodelers Council Board of Trustees.
Colin Herren (HBA of Central Michigan) served as Vice Chair of the NAHB Budget and Finance Committee. He also serves on NAHB’s Executive Board and is Michigan’s NAHB State Rep.
