The Home Builders Association of Michigan was on hand last month for a celebration of Michigan’s last three-term Governor, John Engler (term limits have now placed a two-term limit for any one Governor), held by the Michigan Political History Society. HBA Michigan’s current staff has several links back to the Engler Administration. Dawn Crandall’s father (Jerry) served as Lottery Commissioner and our CEO, Bob Filka, served as an Engler policy advisor. Filka was later appointed by the Governor as President of the Michigan Strategic Fund.
The event drew several hundred participants, including numerous leaders from both sides of the political aisle. Governor Engler offered some inspirational comments about the future of our great state and encouraged a refocused effort in changing our state’s current legislative term limit structure. He lamented the loss of institutional knowledge and its negative consequences. The Michigan Political History Society was founded, in
