The Michigan Remodeler of the Year for 2017 is Jim Reichard of Midland

First and foremost, I am pleased to announce that the Remodeler of the Year for 2017 is Jim Reichard of Midland. He has been a steadfast supporter of HBA Michigan, the Remodelers Council and is active at every level of the HBA and his community. Congratulations Jim!

It’s been refreshing to hear of the success NAHB Remodelers and NAHB as a whole has had recently in Washington, DC as well as here in Michigan. Change is desperately needed in regulations impacting housing and we are fortunate to have both national and state associations that have the ear of administrations in our capitols.

Despite the doggedness of NAHB legal staff, the implementation of the OSHA Silica Dust Rule went into effect September 23, but OSHA inspectors (MIOSHA here in our state) are more interested in contractors following the rule than seeking fines. Find everything you need to know at’t be a statistic ignoring the rules for workplace safety, instead use it as an employee retention tool, telling your workers you take their safety seriously.

NAHB Remodelers chair Dan Bawden and his wife Konne traveled from Houston TX to speak at the Remodelers Council Breakfast at the Grand Hotel during our Fall Board. They were victims of Hurricane Harvey and in his role as chair has brought remodeling with reputable contractors and the NAHBR to the forefront in Texas with the historic level of remodeling spending to come in the wake of the natural disaster. We need to do this no matter the circumstances so let’s put on the PR hats and promote ourselves.

Watch for the Remodelers Workshop next spring once again featuring hundreds of exhibitors of products and tools and sessions to develop your business and enhance your professionalism.

Local associations seeking to form local councils and those with established local councils should visit obtain the best practices for improving participation, programming and retention. Special interest councils like PWB, Remodelers and Associates are proven ways for local associations to create additional value for their members. You may join the council even if your local does not yet have a local council.
