The Home Builders Association of Midland held its 6th Annual Building Trades Fundraising Event in January. The cool thing about this annual event is that students/young adults are the primary speakers. Their personal testimonies are inspiring and have demonstrated to Midland members that their HBA is opening doors for them to connect with the workforce of the future in a very real way. Event organizers work to identify students who have an ability to verbally communicate how important and life-changing the non-traditional school tract of building trades has been for them. This event keeps growing and this year’s was the largest attended and most successful to-date, with proceeds going to support two local high school trades programs –Midland Public and Bullock Creek High Schools. Over the course of the six years, in excess of $10,000 per school has been donated for assistance in tools and safety equipment. Both high school’s trades programs continue to grow with Bullock Creek now offering an AM and PM class, and, both schools have opened their doors to area county school students that do not have a trades program.
